ABOUT US
Dumau Kimonos was founded in Japan in 2002. We are one of the pioneers in Japan who helped to popularize the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by importing well-known international fighters into the country as well as sponsoring local fighters to compete internationally. The name Dumau originates from the Portuguese language which means 'Badass'.
OUR HISTORY
2002
Dumau Kimonos was founded. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is beginning to gain popularity in Japan. However, many practitioners did not have access to gis as the sport was still very new in Japan. Dumau Kimonos was founded to help solve that problem. The first Gi was created at the end of 2002.
2003
Dumau Kimonos hosted our first competition, Copa Dumau De Jiu Jitsu 2003 to help promote both the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the brand together.
2004 - 2009
Dumau Kimonos gi sales are ramping up. At the same time, Copa Dumau De Jiu Jitsu is held annually to give athletes the opportunity to test their skills against similar caliber oponents and to promote the brand of Dumau.
In 2005, Dumau International Jiu Jitsu Championship was introduced. In 2006, this competition became the most famous competition in Japan. Many world champion black belts are invited to Japan to compete and demonstrate to the Japanese Jiu Jitsu community the skills of a black belt and to raise the ceiling of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Japan.
2010 - 2015
Many Japanese and Brazilian athletes from the Japanese Jiu Jitsu Community have become high-level athletes. Dumau Kimonos sponsors these fighters to compete outside of Japan and show the world what the Japanese Jiu Jitsu community athletes are capable of.
In 2015, Dumau takes their competition International to Philippines.
2016 - Present
In 2016, Dumau brings their competitions to Korea and China, attracting many world-class athletes to compete and showcase their skills.
In 2017, Dumau brings their competition to Taiwan.
In 2018, Dumau brings their competition to India.
In 2019, Dumau brings their competition to Vietnam.
Dumau Kimonos continues to host Copa Dumau De Jiu Jitsu anually to showcase star Jiu Jitsu athletes. We continue to sponsor fighters all around the world to represent Dumau as they compete internationally and we hope to bring our competitions to many more countries all around the world.
